O'Mahony, John
(1816, cerca de Mitchelstown, cond. de Cork, Irlanda–6 feb. 1877, Nueva York, N.Y., EE.UU.).

Fundador irlandés de la rama estadounidense de la Hermandad feniana (ver movimiento feniano), sociedad secreta revolucionaria de Irlanda. Este dirigente de la resistencia en Irlanda huyó a Nueva York en 1853, fundó y dirigió allí (1858–66) el movimiento de los fenianos. En 1865, el grupo de fenianos de EE.UU. era numeroso y próspero y enviaba dinero y armas a Irlanda. O'Mahony apoyó a regañadientes la decisión de los fenianos irlandeses de organizar incursiones militares en Canadá contra los británicos, dentro de un plan para mantener a Canadá como rehén por la causa de la libertad de Irlanda. Las incursiones fracasaron y O'Mahony renunció, pero posteriormente fue convocado desde su retiro (1872–77). See also John O'Neill.
